Description : In 2002, Raymond and Laura took over as owners of the charming Sandpiper Café, overlooking the mouth of the Gualala River, with dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean. A favorite of the locals and tourists alike, this quiet “mom and pop,” breakfast and lunch spot was transformed into a hot spot on the coast, known for it’s character as well as a great place to enjoy good food and friends. With his background as a designer/builder, Raymond added the inviting blue awnings, the outdoor picnic seating area, and remodeled the bar to include an espresso machine. The stained glass windows, salvaged from the tear down of an old San Francisco Pub known as “The Rose and Crown," had been in storage for years. Laura noticed the windows behind the bar were about the right size, so Raymond added the stained glass as decorative touches. Other additions, such as new bar stools, restaurant chairs, and window coverings have given the place an added warmth. The rockwork and landscaping have created a continuous flow from the restaurant to the overflow/parking area below. This area is perfect for parking oversized motor homes and giving the dogs a chance to stretch their legs. It may one day include a vacation rental, but for now it is a wonderful park for our traveling dog companions (please clean up after your animals). The Sandpiper Café is a perfect place to enjoy a crab omelet with fresh squeezed O.J., a frothy cappuccino, a signature Sandpiper Bloody Mary, or any breakfast or lunch item while enjoying the spectacular ocean view. Binoculars are available for whale watching. Breakfast is served all day. Dinner is served Friday and Saturday evenings. Live music every Saturday night. Open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. Full bar.
