Description : Willits Community Theatre began nearly thirty years ago with what they considered an ambitious season of four main stage productions performed in a variety of venues. Today, thanks to the continuing generosity of local theater enthusiasts, they pay a mortgage on a building they own, rather than the rent they used to pay. They still have four main shows that typically run for three long weekends. (Tickets just $8 and $12!) They have also added four shorter-term programs as the Independent Theatre Series. These are more ambitious programs: a slight detour from traditional community theater -- but exciting to sophisticated audiences. In addition, there will be several staged readings throughout the year: the Actors Alley Series. Works of distinction that are not practical for full productions or works-in-progress are featured. This is a popular arena for local playwrights. The theater is also available for rentals and special productions as well as benefit programs for the theater and other non-profit organizations. This is a teaching theater with workshops and mentoring for youth and others interested in developing theater arts skills. 'It is no accident,' says President Jay Gordon, 'that community is our middle name.'
